How to Make People Like You (with Self Directed Questions)
I’m from New York.
Europeans tend to think that’s cool.
Here’s what this taught me about human nature.👇
Warning: This post might offend some people.
Other, more objective people will appreciate the truth in it.
Here we go👇
When I tell Europeans I’m from New York 1 of 3 things happens,
- They tell me about their family in New York (or America).
- They tell me about the time they visited New York.
- They tell me what they love or hate about New York.
What do you notice about these 3 options?
Right, they have nothing to do with me and everything to do with them.
It’s so predictable that I try to avoid mentioning my origin.
What could you say instead?
If you pivot the conversation back to your partner,
you’ll learn more and people will like talking to you.
For example,
- Is your family still in New York?
- Have you visited other parts of the country?
- What do you like about New York?
The easiest way to improve your social skills is to ask better questions.
Accept the self interested nature of humans.
